John Legend on the Cover of Fast Company Magazine
John Legend is on the cover of Fast Company Magazine this month. Did you know that John Legend used to be a business consultant before he became this fantastic R&B singer?
Well, the feature was about music’s “secret money machine” - the secret being a website called Musictoday, a website that connects fans with their music heroes. You can sign up for fan clubs, shop for all types of music-related merchandise, and buy tickets to concerts.
I think it’s awesome that artists now have a medium by which to make more money. There used to be a time when music artists had to rely on a label to get the word out about their new CD, but now the internet has changed all that.

49th Grammy Awards (2007)
The 49th Grammy Awards was one of the best…with some of the best performances ever! It’s hard to pick a favorite because I was inspired by all of them…
Some of the most noteable performances to me are:
* Carrie Underwood - loved that emerald dress she wore
* Of course, Justin Timberlake’s performances - the guy is just smokin’ hot right now!
* John Mayer, John Legend, and Corrine Bailey Rae
And where was the Grammy’s twenty years ago? Here’s a retro performance by THE Ms. Jackson herself…
Update: I came across the Washington Post’s Award Show Central where you can get all the information about the Grammy Awards…

Music That Touches Our Soul
I came across this very eloquent post by a UCSF Medical Student who explains what music means to her. The words in the post could have been a song itself:
“…If I concentrated hard enough, I could almost sense the beauty, the aching loveliness, inherent in the music and the way that the notes seemed to linger, float, twirl, and make complex arabesques. The music seemed to fluidly progress into an invisible maelstrom that pulled me, and I could just feel the edges of something else. “
It’s been awhile since I’ve really felt in tune with a song - no pun intended!
For some reason, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston come to mind right now. These women’s voices I can feel. I remember singing in my bedroom as a young girl and trying to mimic the way Whitney Houston sang and how Mariah Carey moved her hands up and down. I felt their music in my soul… Perhaps it had something to do with the words in their songs and my own personal struggles with love and identity.
When was the last time you felt the music touch your soul?
