Singing Is Better Than Medicine

Posted in Inspiration, Commentary by NoSongUnsung on the December 28th, 2007

One of my “secret” dreams in life is to be a singer. I’ve never taken singing lessons, but I’ve put it on the list of things to do in 2008.

Today I played an old Mariah Carey song, Hero, and visualized myself singing in front of a huge crowd…

It’s a very inspiring song and after singing it I felt so much better…so relaxed…and therapeutic.

How Every Music Artist or Band Should Promote Themselves

Posted in Resources by NoSongUnsung on the December 20th, 2007

megaphone.jpgWith the advent of the internet and internet marketing, it’s easier than ever for a music artist or music group to get their name out there.

I was watching the Ellen Degeneres show the other day and Colbie Caillat performed her hit song, “Magic”. I didn’t know that Colbie got her start in the music business because of her MySpace page. There are so many people becoming famous because of their MySpace or YouTube page. There’s no excuse not to start marketing your talents on the internet and I highly recommend that everyone should at least have their own website.

One of the things you’ll want to do besides figuring out the design of your website is to research a web host. There are tons of webhosting companies out there, so you’ll definitely want to take time and research a web host that will serve your needs - or hire someone to do it for you ;) Web Hosting Choice is a website that provides resources on different webhosting companies. If web hosting is a subject that is alien to you, there are articles and F.A.Q.’s to guide you through the process.

I’ve always believed that artists should also interact with their fanbase, so a MySpace page or even a blog would be a good thing to complement your website and build a community around your brand. Read more about my thoughts on blogging at my other blog…

Black Eyed Peas Celebrate Opening of Hard Rock in San Diego

Posted in Music News by NoSongUnsung on the December 14th, 2007

Hundreds, if not thousands gathered for the grand opening of the Hard Rock in downtown San Diego. I’m pretty bummed about missing out on seeing the Black Eyed Peas. I think that they’re one of the few groups in the industry today that have what it takes to make it through the long-haul.

I was turned onto the Black Eyed Peas when their single, Where is the love? first came out. Love the lyrics…

What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all, y’all

(lyrics from Lyrics on Demand)

It was only a couple months ago that I was in the Gaslamp Quarter and took this picture during the construction of the Hard Rock, so I was pretty surprised to see it go up so fast!

Beyonce Shows Love To Her Fans in “The Experience”

Posted in R&B by NoSongUnsung on the December 6th, 2007

Apple iTunesWho loves her fans? Beyonce sure does. On the Tyra Banks show the other day, she took us on a tour of what goes on behind the scenes during a Beyonce tour. Here are a couple reasons why I say that Beyonce loves her fans:

* Before a show Beyonce will go out to meet with about 100+ of concert attendees. Not too many singers make the time to hang out with adoring fans. The fans who made them famous, mind you!

* Beyonce teamed up with Loreal to provide this area where fans can get their hair and makeup done before the show. No running around town to get ready - get jazzed up right there on the spot!

We’re happy to see that Beyonce’s Irreplaceable is being nominated for Record of the Year for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. See the list of nominees.
