Apollo Theater Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009 |

Music legends gathered Monday night to celebrate the Apollo Theater’s 75th Anniversary. The theater is known as “Where Stars are Born and Legends are Made”™…and on Monday night not only did they honor the theater for its contributions to the music community, they also honored Quincy Jones and Patti LaBelle who were inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame.

Check out the photos from the gala below…

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Getting the Recognition They Deserve

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 |

For those who have “paid their dues” in the music business, last night was the night to honor them. Madonna – one of my all-time favorite singers and performers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Even before I really knew what the word “virgin” meant, I was singing her songs and traipsing around with lace headbands in my hair and wondering if I, too, was a Material Girl.

Madonna was in good company as Leonard Cohen, the Dave Clark Five, the Ventures, John Mellencamp, Little Walter, and songwriter-producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were also inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Maybe the show wasn’t as exciting as years past, but at least these artists got the recognition they truly deserved.

2007 American Music Awards Highlights

Saturday, November 24th, 2007 |

It has been awhile since I’ve watched the American Music Awards, but I did tune in last week by accident. Had no idea they were coming on, but I’m glad I didn’t miss it because there was some spectacular performances.

For me the big surprise of the night was the Sugarland/Beyonce duet. I was caught off guard with that one. At first, I was thinking, “Huh?!?”, but halfway into it I started to really like it. I think it’s a step in the right direction when artists of different genres can get together and open up our horizons to something different.

Another favorite performance was Alicia Keys and Beenie Man. I even had to get up and shake my groove thang to the reggae music. You don’t see too many reggae shows nowadays, so it spiced things up a little.

I was also very excited to see Duran Duran making a comeback!

Carrie Underwood: Shining Star at the 41st Country Music Awards

Thursday, November 8th, 2007 |

The Country Music Awards has come and gone and despite all the commercials that told me it would come on tonight I seemed to have missed it. It wasn’t until I logged into Amazon and was reading this post over at the Amazon Earworm’s Blog did I realize that the awards had indeed come on tonight.

Well, Carrie Underwood has seen some great success since her American Idol win. Tonight she won the award for Single of the Year. Here she is accepting her award…
