Comedy Song of the Year: “Single Ladies”

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 |

Beyonce’s song, “Single Ladies”, has been a source of double-over belly laughter this past year. You may recall the SNL skit awhile back featuring Justin Timberlake

And if that isn’t enough to make your stomach hurt, here’s the famous clip that’s been circulating of baby Cory doing the stanky leg to Beyonce’s famous song…

Oh, and that’s not all! Those of you who watched last week’s episode of Glee were entertained with football players getting their groove on to win the game…

Sex and Drugs and Rock n’ Roll…

Friday, October 19th, 2007 |

“Sex and Drugs and Rock n’ Roll” was a song by Ian Dury that was released back in the late 70’s. Somehow the phrase has made its way into our everyday lives. You’ll hear the phrase now and again when people refer to the music industry – and they don’t have to be talking about rock n’ roll either. Sex and drugs seems to have become the way of life for many musicians.

I recently watched the movie, Walk the Line, the story of the romance between Johnny Cash and June Carter. It was a great film and won many awards including a Grammy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe. Cash turned to drugs to cope with the demanding lifestyle of a traveling musician. It’s too bad there aren’t more people in the industry who will say, “Hey, eat this healthy food to get more energy…” instead of recommending some pill or drug to make you feel better.

It’s also sad that we had to lose some of the great artists of all time to drugs – like Elvis Presley, for instance. Some will deny that he passed away because of drugs, but you have to wonder if the heart attack he had was due to the fact that he abused drugs.

Well, let’s just give thanks for drug rehab Malibu style where people can go to get help.

IndieMV: Musical Intercourse For Music Lovers

Monday, October 15th, 2007 |

If you’ve spent any amount of time online, you know that social networking websites are all the craze nowadays. Its only natural that we gravitate toward online communities because we are social beings. If you know the power of MySpace, then you know what I’m talking about!

Well, for music lovers there’s a new social networking site where you can connect with other music lovers: IndieMV – Musical Intercourse. There are many ways to connect at IndieMV like video blogging and web-cam messaging, plus you get access to photos, music videos, interviews, and much more. IndieMV is another way for musical artists and bands to connect with people and get the word out about their music.

Right now IndieMV is holding a contest where one band can win a trip to Montreal, Canada to perform at the Unite Against AIDS Concert. This is just the beginning of the many opportunities for artists to get more exposure! Love it!  There’s also a Beta Junkie contest where the first 300 applicants get a chance to win a trip to the concert in Canada, a $500 shopping spree, and all kinds of fun stuff!

Welcome to No Song Unsung!

Saturday, December 9th, 2006 |

Music has always been a part of my life. From a very young age I was playing the piano, the flute, clarinet, and saxophone. My parents were always playing music and singing karaoke, so I became familiar with all the genres of music.

As I grew up I came to realize how much music affects our thinking and our emotions. We identify with music when we’re happy, sad, or angry. Songs fill our soul and tell the stories of our lives. I believe that music can lift us up when we’re down! Another thing I believe is that music has the ability to unify the world. This may seem a bit idealistic and that’s fine by me because I consider myself an idealist. Anything is possible, I always say.

That’s one of the reasons why we’ve started this blog (and the website is coming soon!) We believe that there’s a new “trend” in music in that the different genres are starting to collaborate. We’re seeing rock being mixed with hip hop and alternative mixing with jazz. We believe these collaborations will open up the minds of people who have been focused on certain types of music.

Another reason we started this blog is that we believe that music needs to revolutionize into something with substance. Alot of music nowadays talks about the same thing over and over again. We need music that will challenge our beliefs and uplift us instead of bringing us down. We need music with meaning.

So, welcome to No Song Unsung! We each have a song in us…

Peace!

~Maria
